Reflections from The Calling 2012

The Calling 2012 has quickly come and gone. Over 90 youth pastors, leaders, students, and parents gathered in Haverhill, MA for our yearly youth ministry conference geared at promoting gospel-centered youth ministry in New England. We at Gospel Alliance NE were blessed to see God work in a number of ways:

  • Thankful for the MANY resources generously donated for the participants of The Calling. Special thanks to Cruciform Press, Shepherd Press, P&R Publishing, Multnomah Books, and Matthias Media for all the books and resource guides.
  • Some great sessions and dialogue taking place throughout the sessions and day. Thanks to Dwight Bernier, our keynote, for reminding us of the priority of the gospel in the normalcy of everyday life and ministry; our breakout speakers Mark Gedicks, Josh Cousineau, Andy Geffers, Andy Bauer, Carla Bombara, and Phil Lowther for their partnership in and passion for The Calling.
  • Grateful for all who gave up a Saturday to join us in the conversation of making the gospel the center point of our lives and youth ministries. We at GANE love connecting with faithful gospel partners throughout New England, and love to watch people network and connect, all for the sake of God’s mission and glory.

We’d love to hear your feedback. Any stories or evidences of God’s grace throughout the day, whether it was through a session, a conversation, or a resource you picked up at the conference, let us know. Many thanks again to all who helped make The Calling 2012 happen. We covet your prayers as we plan and seek the Spirit’s direction going forward for The Calling.

Missional Communities Forum

Over the past couple of years there has been a growing interest in missional communities. As pastors, our hearts are always grabbed by the energy and Spirit activity around pre-Christian people. It has also been interesting to see the front door of the church migrate from physical doors, to cyber ones, to living rooms and back yards (where it should be).

So, in light of this growing phenomenon, we would like to host a simple brown bag lunch for people in the Northern New England area who are both interested and involved in the idea of missional communities. Our goal is simply to share what God has been doing in our communities and to see how we can encourage one another in the pursuit!

We will be meeting on April 25 at 12:00 PM at the Missio Dei Church office located at 36 Market St in the Old Port. (An FYI: Market St Eats is right above the office and would be a great place to grab lunch quickly).

If you plan to attend, please contact Angel Silva or Mark Gedicks!

Also, please forward this information to anyone that you feel might be interested.

Acts 29 Regional in New York

Coming up on Monday, April 16th, 2012 Acts 29 will be hosting a regional event in New York from 11am – 5pm at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Manhattan featuring Jerry Gillis, author of Followship: The Essence of Our Journey with Jesus.

The cost is just $15. For more info on the event, or to register, visit the Saturate website.

Acts 29 Northeast Regional

The next A29 Northeast Regional is a little over one week away, but there’s still time to sign up and attend if you’re in the Philly area. Jared Wilson will be at ReaLife Church on Feb. 27, 2012 addressing The Pastor’s Heart. For more info, visit the A29 site, or register here.

Gospel Coach Feb 3rd & 4th

I don’t know about you, but it seems like so much of my ministry development seemed unsupervised. I’ve had some great teachers and I am so thankful for the constant direction of God’s Spirit, so don’t get me wrong, but there were many times I felt left to figure things out on my own. This is not a complaint – it has instilled deep inside of me a desire to come alongside those who are growing and taking leadership around me.
“Leaders need someone to shepherd their soul so that they can then lead others to the Chief Shepherd, Jesus Christ. Every church leader—from fulltime ministers to volunteer leaders—needs a Gospel Coach who will come alongside them with words drawn from Scripture and godly wisdom, grounded in the gracious saving work of Jesus Christ, and presented in the context of a trusting relationship.” - Gospel Coach
That’s why I am really interested, excited, and hopeful for the training that Scott Thomas, president of Acts 29, has developed. Gospel Coach: Shepherding Leaders to Glorify God is due to be released in May. Scott Thomas is also leading training events that are crisscrossing the nation. The closest event to the Northeast so far is next week, February 3-4th, in Syracuse, NY. This is real short notice, so it may be worth following Gospel Coach on Facebook, to read more and see where more trainings will be held.

White Horse Inn Reformation Conference

PABIG Conference Header

We would like to encourage you check out the White Horse Inn‘s Reformation Conference, being held October 28th and 29th in Bradford, Mass.  Keynote Michael Horton seeks to deftly unpack the crux of the gospel, bringing our focus back to grace and turn habitual thought away from the sad but common misconceptions regarding our acceptance.  The second keynote, Gordon Isaac, will bring attendees through a history of the New England Church.  Overall this looks to be a great set of sessions through which we can gather a greater view of Christ and reaching New England for His glory.

Lakeside Marriage Conference

September 9th and 10th, Lakeside Community Church will be hosting speakers Stu and Ruth Ann Batstone from World Harvest Mission. They will be covering topics in marriage, taking the opportunity to help couples view their marriage through the lens of the gospel. The format for this workshop is unique, in that the Batstones will each present their topics then discussion will be held between husband and wife. (The speakers are also recommending clearing schedules Saturday for a spousal lunch date, immediately after the workshop, to further unpack conversations.) For more information click here
